FGDP(UK) urges responsible approach to antimicrobial prescribing

Dental practitioners should only consider the use of antibiotics when the drainage of an acute dental infection cannot be achieved, says the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK). The FGDP(UK) is keen to highlight the ineffectiveness of antimicrobials on oral abscesses and the need for practitioners to ensure that they act responsibly to help slow the global development of antibiotic resistance.

Launch of New Radiography Standards

The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) invites you to the launch of the 3rd edition of Selection Criteria for Dental Radiography at the BDTA Dental Showcase at 1pm on Thursday 17 October 2013 (Stand E11). The FGDP(UK)’s Dean Trevor Ferguson and Professor Ken Eaton (one of the lead editors for the book) will be speaking at the launch and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.

FGDP(UK) welcomes review of care standards in cosmetic dentistry following Keogh report

Sir Bruce Keogh’s recent Review of the Regulation of Cosmetic Interventions acknowledges concerns around the lack of overarching standards and regulation within the field of cosmetic dentistry, and suggests that Ministers may wish to consider a review of this area.

DCPs who see patients directly must review skills and knowledge, says FGDP(UK)

FGDP(UK) Co-funded study shows BRONJ is rare

Archive Story 3 December 2012 A two-year collaboration between the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) (FGDP (UK)) and the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS), based on patient case records has concluded that incidence of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) can be considered as rare.
