After the success of the new Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry structure, the Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP (UK)) is pleased to announce that applications for our second cohort are now open. The programme structure allows flexibility as the candidates have the choice to apply for a one year Certificate or continue another year to complete the Diploma. The flexibility makes the programme accessible, and is open to dentists immediately on completion of Foundation Training or at any later stage of their careers.

The Postgraduate Certificate delivers the foundation elements of the restorative disciplines, while the Postgraduate Diploma offers a deeper level of teaching and skills acquisition, with enhanced modules, in the second year.

Both qualifications teach the latest techniques while embracing the importance of aesthetics and a minimally invasive approach. And as with all FGDP courses, a firm emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice.

The original Diploma in Restorative Dentistry taught almost 500 students between 2005 and 2018. The revised programme started in September 2019, and the first cohort of 24 dentists are currently undertaking their Certificate year

The new programme offers flexibility and a renewed curriculum, while still being led by the highly regarded Prof Mike Mulcahy and Nick Lewis alongside a team of experienced tutors allocated to each student to give personal support.

Those completing the Certificate are entitled to use the post-nominal designation Cert Rest Dent RCS Eng and are eligible to enrol onto the second year to complete the Diploma. Those completing the Diploma are entitled to use the designation Dip Rest Dent RCS Eng. Successful completion of Diploma counts towards an MSc at the Universities of Plymouth, Kent and Leeds.

The Faculty will be hosting an Open Day on the Saturday 14th March 2020. This will be a great opportunity to meet the teaching staff, tutors and visit the facilities. Interested candidates can register for Open Day here.
