Jason Adams-Collman has been awarded the prestigious British Dental Editors’ and Writers’ Forum Young Communicator Award 2019 for an article published in FGDP(UK)’s Primary Dental Journal.

Jason Adams-Collman, and runner-up Hiraa Jamil, with BDIA President Daniel Davis, and BDEWF President Professor Ken Eaton FFGDP(UK)

Jason is the Dental IT Systems Manager at King’s College Hospital, and was presented with the award for his paper Ransomware and Cyber Security: the King That Did Not Wannacry - his first publication in a scientific journal - which appeared in the Spring 2018 issue of PDJ. He received a certificate and cheque for £500 from the British Dental Industry Association.

In light of the large-scale ransomware attack that affected the NHS in May 2017, Jason's paper discusses what dental practices can do reduce their vulnerability to the threat of cyber attacks and ensure security and safety of digitally-held patient data, such as X-rays.

FGDP(UK) members can read the paper using their exclusive access to the online PDJ library.
