The oral health and the ageing population issue of PDJ provides an update on gerodontology for the primary dental care team.

From the perspective of improving patient care for older adults, the issue covers periodontal disease, dental caries, partial removable dentures, tooth replacement and much more. It also highlights the oral medicine considerations and risk of medication related complications dental care professionals may need to be aware of when treating older patients.

The issue is guest edited by Dr Gerry McKenna, Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast.
