FGDP response to draft NICE guidance on acute sinusitis

FGDP(UK) has responded to a draft guideline on antimicrobial prescribing for acute sinusitis from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), saying it should recognise that patients often seek treatment from a dentist, as the condition may present as dental or facial pain.

The consultation response notes that when presented with these symptoms, dental practitioners should assess for a dental cause, and where this is ruled out, refer the patient to their GP. The Faculty also encourages GPs to refer patients to a dentist before prescribing antimicrobials.

FGDP's guidance, Antimicrobial Prescribing for General Dental Practitioners, can be viewed online and is also available in hard copy. Our antimicrobial prescribing self-audit tool and other resources are also available on our Antibiotic Stewardship webpage.

All FGDP(UK) consultation responses are available on our Policy, Reports and Consultation Responses webpage.
