The Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP(UK)) and Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) have announced that they are planning to replace the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (MJDF) examinations with a new programme of assessments.

In the meantime, the timetable for the MJDF will continue as normal, with the final part 1 exam taking place in October 2020, and part 2 having the final sitting in February 2021. Both Faculties are fully committed to continued support of the MJDF throughout its final diets, and to maintaining examination development to ensure the quality of the assessment.

FGDP(UK) is working with the new College of General Dentistry to construct a new Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Practice, which will be awarded by the new College and also serve as a qualification for membership.

Ian Mills, Dean of FGDP(UK), said:

“We want to continue to support dentists throughout their careers. In developing the new Certificate in Dental Practice with the College of General Dentistry, our aim is to ensure there is a clear career pathway with robust qualifications for primary care dentists.”
