Why join the FGDP(UK)?

The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) is the only professional membership body in the UK specifically for general dental practice. Our membership of over 4,000 members reflects the full range and depth of the general dental practice team, including students currently studying to become dentists.

If you work in general dental practice, FGDP(UK) is here to help you develop and enhance your career and improve the standards of care in your profession. We uphold the highest standards in dentistry, and by joining us you are sending a clear message to your peers and patients that you also uphold these standards of excellence.

We seek to improve the standard of care delivered to patients through standard setting, publications, postgraduate training and assessment, education and research.

Joining FGDP(UK) not only shows that you are serious about your profession, but also offers you valuable opportunities to develop your career alongside other highly motivated and experienced peers.

For every dental professional, throughout your career

We offer membership to all general dental professionals registered with the General Dental Council (GDC; or overseas equivalent).

If you are a registered dental care practitioner and hold a postgraduate dental qualification, you are eligible for full membership. Associate membership is open to other practitioners who are registered with the GDC.

We support you throughout your whole career - from year 4 of your BDS, to when you qualify, right through to becoming a senior dentist with enhanced skills, experience and knowledge. We are with you every step of the way, helping you to reach your professional goals, whatever they may be.

Influence the future of the dental profession

FGDP(UK) is governed by a Board elected by and from the Faculty membership, ensuring that we represent the needs, interests and hopes of general dental practice throughout the UK. Motivated members also have many opportunities to contribute to and influence the future of the profession through consultations, education, networking with key decision makers, publications and more.

Membership structure which supports your development

Our membership structure is designed to reflect and propel your career forwards.

As one of the two faculties responsible for MJDF, we support you through the qualification. We also support you to become a full member (which entitles you to additional benefits). And through our career pathway we facilitate your professional progression to the highly respected Fellowship of the FGDP(UK).

Join FGDP(UK) to support and lead the dental profession in the UK.
