The Future of FGDP(UK) and establishment of a new College of General Dentistry
On 30 January 2017, the FGDP(UK) issued a joint announcement with the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) that the Faculty intended to pursue an autonomous future. You can read the text of the announcement to Faculty Members here.
On 19 December 2017, in a statement to Members, the Dean, Dr Mick Horton confirmed the Faculty's intention to establish an independent College as the educational and professional home for general dentistry, including members of the wider team.
The statement also announced the appointment of a Transition Board, which has worked with the FGDP(UK) Board and the RCS to develop the foundations for a new College. The Transition Board has now been developed to constitute a capable Board of Trustees to take the College forward.
At the Faculty's 2018 Annual General Meeting, the Dean informed Members that the new organisation would be the College of General Dentistry.
The new College is now coming together with an exciting portfolio of initial activities for dentists and their teams working in the primary care environment. The official launch of the College will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, the Faculty continues to serve its members as we plan for its transfer to the new College.
