Research

Why is the Faculty involved in research?

It is one of the aims of FGDP(UK) to improve the standard of patient care through research. 95% of oral healthcare in the UK is provided in primary care, mostly by general dental practitioners and their teams. To date, very little research has been performed in primary dental centres.

To improve this situation FGDP(UK) has developed an infrastructure throughout the country to provide primary care dentists and their dental teams with local sources of advice on oral healthcare research. A network of Divisional Research Facilitators (DRFs) has been established throughout the UK.

The Faculty is committed to promoting research in general dental practice and has established a database of academic collaborators. If you would like to register your research interests, visit the FGDP(UK) Research Register

A series of research information leaflets are available to support those interested in research, in addition to the Research Competencies Framework which sets out the knowledge and skills required for competency in topics relevant to research.

The Faculty studies/projects page also contains information on research projects being carried out or supported by the FGDP(UK).

Members of the FGDP(UK) can also access the FGDP(UK) Critical Appraisal Pack.

Around 95% of oral healthcare in the UK is provided in primary care but very little research has been performed in primary dental care centres, including general dental practices.

To improve this situation, FGDP(UK) has developed an infrastructure throughout the UK to provide primary care dentists and their dental teams with local sources of advice on oral healthcare research.
