Diploma in Implant Dentistry

Aim

To provide education and training for general dental practitioners to enable them to practise implant dentistry to a high standard and in the best interests of the patient.

 

Course Content

Defining and planning treatment; communicating with patients; carrying out procedures required to augment deficient sites; carrying out surgical and restorative aspects of implant therapy; monitoring and maintaining implants.  Please click here for a course prospectusfrequently asked questions & answers and an application form.

 

Teaching & Assessment

(a) 16 two to three day contact learning units, featuring practical hands-on sessions and interactive seminars;

(b) Workplace-based training focusing on observation of clinical procedures carried out in a practice environment at a variety of locations, plus ten clinical case reports completed by the participant under a peer-mentoring system supported by course tutors;

(c) A distance-learning component made up of a list of publications to be read and reviewed, and a total of 14 key topic assignments. Participants will also search for additional literature which can be incorporated into assignments and used to support other aspects of the course, including clinical activities. Participants are assessed on an ongoing basis throughout the programme and must undergo a summative assessment at the end of the training period, which includes the presentation of ten clinical cases.

 

Minimum Requirements

Licence to practice dentistry.  Registration with GDC or equivalent.  Practice should have sufficient demand for implant dentistry.  MJDF RCS Eng or other postgraduate qualifications are desirable.  Application is by competitive entry, please see frequently asked questions & answers for further information.

Cost

£19,500 for FGDP(UK) members and £20,500 for non-members

 

Credits

This programme equates to 120 postgraduate credits, which may be used towards an MSc in Dental Implantology at the University of Salford.

The programme also fully satisfies the clinical component of the FGDP(UK)'s Career Pathway.
