FGDP(UK) launches route to Fellowship by non-clinical assessment

07 November 2008

The FGDP(UK) is pleased to announce the launch of a route to the Diploma of Fellowship of the Faculty (FFGDP[UK]) by non-clinical assessment.

Until now the assessment has only been available to those currently working in primary dental care. The new assessment has been developed to mark the achievements of those not currently practising (and so ineligible to be assessed via the normal clinical route), but who have made an exceptional commitment and contribution to primary care dentistry in other ways. The two assessments are at an equivalent academic level, and lead to the award of the same diploma.

Candidates for the non-clinical assessment are required to provide a reflective portfolio of evidence detailing their achievements on one or more of the following categories:

  • Education, teaching (including vocational training) and assessment
  • Research relevant to primary dental care
  • Leadership and/or management
  • Law and ethics
  • Professionalism
  • Innovation and creativity.

The FFGDP(UK) marks the end of the FGDP(UK) Career Pathway, and gives practitioners the opportunity to demonstrate that all that has been learned from a programme of structured continuing education and training has been put into effect, and that the practitioner is capable of delivering the highest standards of patient care.
