Online portfolio

Volunteers needed to pilot innovative online portfolio.

The FGDP(UK) is excited to announce the development of PebblePad, a personal learning system which allows members to not only record all learning experiences, but reflect on and evaluate learning throughout their entire career. PebblePad is designed to make it easier for members to:

  • Manage CPD activity for a range of purposes, including GDC submission
  • Bring together all relevant personal resources to build a portfolio of evidence for MJDF and Fellowship assessment
  • Present learning, achievements and goals as part of performance reviews
  • Provide comprehensive submissions to meet future revalidation requirements
  • Record evidence and progress, evaluate outcomes and reflect on achievements as part of, eg, course submissions or practice appraisals
  • Share ideas, facilitate group discussions, and upload presentations and meeting records for all types of projects
  • Build CVs and prepare for job interviews
  • Link to many other resources such as e-Den (e-learning programme for foundation training), GDC core skills, FGDP(UK) Key Skills, DwSI frameworks, etc.

PebblePad, which will be launched through the divisions in October 2010 and nationally in January 2011, offers complete security to protect the confidentiality of members and their patients. Each member will determine the level of access granted to colleagues, tutors or assessors, etc, and the FGDP(UK) will not monitor content.

Volunteer for the pilot & win a night's stay in London!

The Faculty is looking to recruit volunteers to test PebblePad for the pilot phase of its development to run until May 2010. This will involve making general use of the system, as well as undertaking specific tasks, and providing feedback. Any information and evidence a member uploads will be transferred onto the ‘live’ system for use once PebblePad is launched.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Charma Appiah, FGDP(UK) Divisional Co-ordinator on cappiah@rcseng.ac.uk. Each volunteer will be entered into a draw to win one night's stay for two at the Royal College's Nuffield accommodation in central London.

Those taking part in the pilot will receive verifiable CPD if they complete the feedback and some or all of the tasks.

For more information on PebblePad and how it might help you as a member, please contact the FGDP(UK)'s Head of Education, Julia O'Sullivan, on josullivan@rcseng.ac.uk.
