Join the FGDP(UK) as a DCP Affiliate Member
In January 2005, the Faculty opened its doors to the wider dental team with the launch of a Dental Care Professionals (DCP) Affiliate Membership category, which is available to those DCPs who are subject to registration with the General Dental Council (GDC). Those members of the team not currently subject to registration may apply for DCP Subscription, which there is an FGDP(UK) subscription, which affords many similar benefits.
With the introduction of statutory registration in mind, the Faculty has been working with DCP associations to support developments that encompass the whole dental team. Our DCP Advisory Board is recognised by the GDC as a valuable forum for consultation on policy issues and the development of mechanisms to support continuing professional development. Through the strength of its membership, the Faculty is also able to influence the standard setting agenda for primary dental care on a national basis.
The main benefits of membership/subscription are:
- 12 hours of verifiable CPD per member per year
- Team in Practice, the Faculty’s quarterly CPD journal for DCPs (see below)
- The Faculty’s quarterly newsletter, First-Hand
- Access via Athens to The Royal College of Surgeons of England and FGDP(UK) members’ website, from where a range of resources such as online Team in Practice and First-Hand, as well as an online library of electronic journals and databases, are freely available

You can become an Affiliate member of the FGDP(UK) if you are currently or prospectively subject to registration with the General Dental Council. Affiliate membership is therefore available to:
- Clinical dental technicians
- Dental hygienists
- Dental nurses
- Dental technicians
- Dental therapists
- Orthodontic therapists.
