Examinations and Assessment

The FGDP(UK) runs a number of examinations which have been developed to reflect the career stages of a primary care dentist. They are designed to assess clinical skills, standards of patient care and the general knowledge required while working in a general dental practice and will be of relevance to all general dental practitioners (GDPs).

For examinations it is exciting times at present for us, the FGDP(UK) and the Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS), the two sister faculties at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The preparations for the introduction of the new Membership of Joint Dental Faculties (MJDF) examination are well underway. Eventually this up-to-date, common, and fit-for-purpose examination will supersede the current MFGDP(UK) and MFDS examinations and fulfil the requirement of the foundation stage of the Faculty's Career Pathway.

The Career Pathway aims to provide GDPs with lifelong learning and career-long support leading to attainment of the Fellowship of the Faculty (FFGDP[UK]).

For detailed information including regulations, entry requirements and examination dates on all our examinations, please refer to pages within this section of the website. Please also feel free to contact the Faculty's examinations department on 020 7869 6762 or fgdp@rcseng.ac.uk if you require any further information on our examinations.

I hope you find the website useful and we look forward to seeing you at one of our examinations soon.

With best wishes
