When is the Diplomates Ceremony?

The next Diplomates Ceremony is being held on Saturday 3 March 2012.

 

Where will the Ceremony be held?

The Ceremony is being held at The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

 

What time does the Ceremony begin?

The Ceremony will begin at 2:30pm; however, diplomates are recommended to arrive at the College around midday in order to allow enough time for gowning and photography.

 

How long does the Ceremony last?

The Ceremony will last between one and a half and two hours and shall be followed by afternoon tea for diplomates and their guests.

 

How many guests are permitted to the ceremony?

There is a maximum of two guests per diplomate.

 

Will extra guest tickets be available?

If there are any extra guest tickets available, you should contact the Faculty no earlier than Friday 27 January 2012. Extra tickets will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. You are asked not to contact the office prior to 27 January 2012. 

 

Can children attend the Ceremony?

Please note that children under the age of 10 years cannot be admitted to the Ceremony. There will be a video link provided in lecture theatre.  

 

Is there disabled access to the College?

Disabled access to the Royal College of Surgeons is available throughout the day via the front entrance to the Nuffield College. The Nuffield College is directly adjacent to the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

 

Is academic dress required?

Academic dress will be worn for the occasion and can be ordered from Ede & Ravenscroft Ltd by accessing their online gown hire service at www.gownhire.co.uk or alternatively by telephoning 01223 861854.  Please note that you must deal directly with Ede and Ravenscroft and not the Faculty.  

 

Will professional photographs be taken at the Ceremony?

Arrangements have been made for diplomates to be photographed before the Ceremony. To ensure a prompt service on graduation day, photographs and frames can be ordered in advance on-line, from Ede and Ravenscroft Ltd, at www.edeandravenscroft.co.uk. Alternatively diplomates can obtain an ‘advance photography order form’ from the Faculty. Please telephone 020 7869 6762 or mail fgdpdipsday@rcseng.ac.uk for a form.

 

Are diplomates’ guests permitted to take photographs during the Ceremony?

While everyone is welcome to take photographs in the College, diplomates and their guests are requested not to take photographs during the Ceremony

 

Will car parking be available on the day?

We regret that car parking facilities will not be available on the College premises at any time on the day of the Ceremony. There is limited on-street parking and tickets for spaces are valid for two to four hours.  The purchase of subsequent tickets is prohibited within one hour of the expiry of the previous ticket and the area is regularly patrolled by wardens. 

If you do park in these spaces please note that tickets must be purchased from the correct ticket machine as the area is controlled by two different London boroughs.

Will diplomates have access to the College’s Hunterian Museum on the day of the Ceremony?

The College’s Hunterian Museum will be open from 10am until 5pm on the day of the Ceremony. All diplomates and their guests are welcome to visit the Museum at any time, free of charge.

 

Will refreshments be available?

Ticket holders are invited to take afternoon tea immediately after the Ceremony.
