Next intakes
The next intake is for Cohort 7 in Manchester which will start in January 2009. The next cohort to begin in London will be April 2009, with a deadline for applications in 30 January 2009.
Aim
The aim of this programme is to provide education and training for general dental practitioners to enable them to deliver a recognised standard of restorative dentistry in primary dental care.
Award
The programme will train and accredit practitioners who successfully meet the requirements of the programme, to an agreed standard as recognised by primary care trusts, teaching and regulatory organisations.
Course components
The programme consists of three components:
- Contact learning: 15 contact learning days consisting of both practical and theoretical exercises (15 credits)
- Work-based training: production of clinical cases (60 credits)
- Self-directed distance learning: Critical reading and completion of 13 written assignments topics (45 credits)
Programme structure
In the first year, the programme will cover a wide range of topics essential to the further development of treatment planning and associated clinical skills. In the second year participants will be able to develop their interest in either Periodontology or Endodontics although both these modules will include all other aspects of restorative treatment.
Suitable candidates
This programme is particularly suitable for practitioners who are at least two years post basic qualification who wish to improve their skills in restorative dentistry.
Candidates should be working in an appropriate environment with access to a broad range of restorative cases sufficient to meet the needs of the qualification.
Number of credits
Participants must successfully complete all the modules to obtain the 120 postgraduate credits.
Duration and venue
The programme is of two years duration. The venue for the contact learning sessions in Manchester will be the Mandec Dental Education Centre. The venue for the contact learning sessions in London will be the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Guy’s Tower, Guy’s Hospital.
