Facial Aesthetics Masterclass

No dates are currently scheduled for 2010.

Dates for 2011 to be confirmed.

Below is a brief description of 2009 course.

This masterclass consisted of five taught days broken up into three days for basic skills and dissection followed by a day a week later for a hands-on practical session and a further day some three months later to cover problem solving, case selection and further skills.

The course director was Professor Mike Mulcahy, and the teaching faculty included Professor Vishy Mahadevan of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, Dr Bob Khanna and Mr Jonathan Britto, besides other acknowledged experts in their fields of study.

The masterclass incorporated a two-day section on facial anatomy that included participant dissection of fresh frozen cadavers. The use of this type of cadaver was new and under the direction of Professor Vishy Mahadevan (RCS Professor of Anatomy) participants did not only dissect and investigate skin layers, facial muscles, blood supply and innervations but also, because of the condition of the cadavers, practiced placing some aesthetic therapy substitutes into the cadaver and investigating where the substance was actually placed, and what effect this had or might have had.

The course also covered the pharmacological and psychological elements that are appropriate to this area of study and indeed what facial aesthetics therapies are appropriate in clinical situations that cannot be delivered by the dentist.

It was anticipated that the course not only be appropriate to those dentists who already undertake these treatment modalities within their practices but also to those who have not as yet undertaken any aspect of facial aesthetics.

Participants received 35 hours of verifiable CPD for course attendance. On successful completion of a clinical case which is a compulsory element of the masterclass, participants also receive a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion. FGDP(UK) membership is not required.

Course fees: £2,995 for 2009 course
