Foreword

Continuing education is the primary focus of the Faculty’s activities. It is the Education Department’s aim to develop and administer a wide spectrum of courses and training programmes for General Dental Practitioners and Dental Care Professionals.

Of the four postgraduate programmes the Faculty offers the FGDP(UK) Diploma in Implant Dentistry continues to grow in success as we now embark on the first regional intake of participants in Leeds from September 2006.

The Education department has plans to increase the number of postgraduate training programmes currently offered as we identify those areas where GDP’s are looking for formal recognition. We have plans to start a diploma in 2007 namely; a Diploma in Orthodontics.

The Education department has delivered in succession numerous courses and masterclasses on familiar topics including; Oral Cancer, Root Issues, Practice Management and more recently the joint FGDP/FDS National Event: Dentists with Special Interests (DwSIs).

Through continuing education, general dental practitioners will also benefit from the support of the Career Pathway which leads to the award of FFGDP(UK). Progression on the Career Pathway can be attained by successful completion of a number of postgraduate programmes including; the Certificate in Dental Health Services Leadership and Management, Certificate in Appraisal of Dental Practices, Diploma in Implant Dentistry and the Diploma in Restorative Dentistry. Further details on the Faculty's postgraduate programmes can be found on the website.

I hope you find the website useful and interesting and we look forward to welcoming you on one of our courses in the near future.

Mr Charles Ormond
FGDP(UK) Member and Chairman of the Education Committee
