Postgraduate Certificate leading to an MSc* in Primary Dental Care
The Kent Centre for Dentistry (University of Kent) and the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) have collaborated in the development of an exciting and innovative new Masters level programme in primary dental care.

Duration: Part-time over one (certificate), two (diploma) or three (MSc) years
Location: University of Kent's Canterbury or Medway campuses, and The Royal College of Surgeons of England in London
Suitability: GDPs should have a working environment that enables the study and completion of selected modules, and have current membership of the FGDP(UK)

The programme, which it is intended will lead to an MSc in Primary Dental Care,
aims to provide students with the opportunity to:
- Assess and raise the standards of patient care through workplace-based learning
- Critically review outcomes of care delivered through informed research and audit
- Enhance skills in clinical and non-clinical disciplines.

FGDP(UK) Diploma in Implant Dentistry
Applications are invited for both the September 2008 intake of the Leeds-based FGDP(UK) Diploma in Implant Dentistry and the February 2009 intake of the London-based diploma. This successful and highly regarded programme offers dentists the ultimate training in implant dentistry from an established teaching faculty that includes experts in the field, and is registered as an additional qualification with the GDC.

Duration: Part-time over two years
Locations: Leeds - Leeds Dental Institute London - The Royal College of Surgeons of England
Suitability: GDPs are expected to be working in an environment with access to a broad range of implant cases

This two-year teaching programme features a hands-on practical component, with emphasis on workplace-based training. Participants have the opportunity to further develop their experience and skills under the supervision of experienced tutors, whilst maintaining a commitment to practice.

FGDP(UK) Diploma in Restorative Dentistry
Applications are invited for the January 2009 intake of the FGDP(UK) Diploma in Restorative Dentistry in Manchester, and the April 2009 intake of the London-based diploma. This programme enables practitioners to be accredited for gaining enhanced skills in restorative dentistry in a structured and progressive environment, and with minimal time away from practice.

Duration: Part-time over two years
Locations: Manchester - Mandec London - The Royal College of Surgeons of England and Guy's Hospital
Suitability: GDPs will need to have been two years' qualified and be working environment with access to a broad range of restorative cases

Running successfully for three years, the programme offers a strong support base throughout, combining both interactive contact and distance learning, as well as workplace-based training. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics essential to the further development of treatment planning and associated clinical skills, with the opportunity to focus on periodontics, endodontics or aesthetic dentistry during the second year.

Certificate in Appraisal of Dental Practices
Applications are invited for the FGDP(UK) Certificate in Appraisal of Dental Practices. This is a broad-based qualification which is open to all dental care professionals, and which aims to enable effective practice appraisal in a primary dental care setting using any appraisal or quality assurance system.

Suitability: Suitable for all dental team members, especially practice assessors and dental advisers

In both the private sector and the NHS, modern primary care dentistry relies on a network of advisers from a number of different organisations to check for compliance with current legislation and professional guidelines. This course provides a formalised and accredited training programme to allow appropriately skilled assessors to undertake effective and efficient practice visits, with the ultimate objective of enhancing standards of patient care.

Certificate in Dental Health Services Leadership and Management
Applications are invited for the FGDP(UK) Certificate in Dental Health Services Leadership and Management. This certificate is available to all members of the dental team wishing to further their skills in the operational and strategic management of dental services.

The programme is designed to help dental professionals to develop the knowledge and competencies necessary to manage dental healthcare provision services effectively, and to contribute more fully to the development of oral health policy, both nationally and locally. The course is expected to be particularly useful for those involved in the management of dental services in primary care trusts or dental bodies corporate. Candidates can minimise the time spent out of practice by choosing to take the part-time course in either Harrogate or Gatwick.

Advanced Certificate in Aesthetic Dentistry
Applications are invited for the 2008 intake of the FGDP(UK) Advanced Certificate in Aesthetic Dentistry, which begins in April 2008. This exciting new qualification is designed for primary care dentists who wish to develop their skills and gain a recognised qualification in a rapidly growing field of dentistry.

Duration: Part-time over 18 months
Location: The Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Dental Institute at Guy's, Kings and St Thomas' Hospitals, London
Suitability: GDPs are expected to have a masters-level qualification, and to be working in an environment which enables the study and completion of the minimum number of modules

This 18-month course is designed for practitioners who wish to gain formal training in aesthetic dentistry, one of the fastest-growing fields in dentistry, and to put these skills to use in practice. Candidates will be able to follow a flexible curriculum of contact learning, workplace-based training, and distance learning, with guidance and support from tutors throughout.
