About the FGDP(UK)

We were formed in 1992 as the academic home for general dental practitioners (GDPs). The FGDP(UK) is based at The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) and our aim is to improve the standard of care delivered to patients through standard setting, postgraduate training and assessment, education and research.

Around 95% of the dental care in the UK is provided in the primary dental care setting. The FGDP(UK) looks after the continuing professional development (CPD) and training needs of both dentists and dental care professionals (DCPs) working in this field.

FGDP(UK) divisions

The FGDP(UK) is made up of 21 divisions: the Central London Faculty is based at The Royal College of Surgeons of England, and our other divisions are spread across the UK - visit the FGDP(UK) Divisions page to find out more about what is happening in your nearest division.

We have developed the Career Pathway, a career development framework for the primary DCPs, leading to fellowship of the Faculty. You must have a registerable primary dental care qualification and be a member of the FGDP(UK) to register on the Career Pathway.

FGDP(UK) boards and committees

We believe in promoting excellence in dentistry across the whole dental team and we are very glad to have the assistance of our DCP Committee.

We are also very grateful for the contribution of our Lay Advisory Group (LAG). The LAG makes sure that all that we do is aimed at improving the standard of care for patients. You can visit the patient information pages developed by the LAG.
