FGDP(UK) Overview

The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) has 21 geographical Divisions. The Faculty is built upon the participation by members in their local Divisions. Each Division has its own local governing arrangements involving a Divisional Director, Secretary and Treasurer. To contact a Division please go to the list of Divisions and Divisional Officers.

The Faculty's governing body is the National Faculty Board. This consists of elected representatives from each of the 21 Divisions and eight members who are elected nationally. Each elected member serves a three year term of office. The seats becoming due for election are advertised to the Faculty membership and in the British Dental Journal in February each year. Current Board membership can be viewed on this site.

The Board meets three times a year in London.

The National Faculty Board elects the Dean, currently Richard Hayward, who provides professional leadership to the Faculty. The Dean serves a three-year term of office, subject to annual re-election.

The Faculty has a number of Committees which support its work.

The Chairmen of each of the Committees form a Dean's Committee which has executive responsibility together with the Dean for the management of the Faculty.

The Dean is supported by a full time staff of 19 managed by the Registrar, Ian Pocock.
